Want to start selling online with WordPress? WooCommerce is the go-to plugin for setting up an online store, and the best part—it’s free! In this quick guide, I’ll walk you through the simple steps to install and set up WooCommerce in 2025. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Access the WordPress Plugin Directory
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
- On the left menu, hover over Plugins and click Add New.
- In the search bar, type WooCommerce.
Step 2: Install WooCommerce
- Look for the WooCommerce plugin by Automattic. It should have millions of active installations.
- Click the Install Now button.
- Once installed, click Activate.
Step 3: Start the WooCommerce Setup Wizard
- After activation, the WooCommerce setup wizard will appear.
- You’ll be asked if you want to allow WooCommerce to collect usage tracking data. This is optional—you can disable it if you prefer.
- Click Set up my store to continue.
Step 4: Provide Store Details
- Select how you're using WooCommerce:
- Starting a new store
- Migrating from another platform (e.g., Shopify, Squarespace)
- Setting up for a client
- Enter your store name (or change it if needed).
- Select your industry (e.g., electronics, clothing, food).
- Provide your business location—this helps configure taxes and shipping settings.
- Enter your email address (this can be changed later for order notifications).
- Click Continue.
Step 5: Recommended Plugin Setup
WooCommerce may suggest additional plugins:
- WooCommerce Payments – Simplifies payment processing with credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
- Jetpack – Offers security and performance tracking (optional).
- Social Media Integrations – Connects your store with Facebook, Instagram, Google, and TikTok for marketing.
If you don’t need these plugins right away, disable them to keep your website fast and secure.
Click Continue to finish the setup.
